BANGLADESH is marching ahead on the path of development along side global development initiatives. It is great to learn all that the government has undertaken a number of mega projects as well as pilot programmes which are presently under implementation. These development activities will pave the way for us to achieve the target of a digital Bangladesh and a poverty and hunger-free country. As the government declared that Bangladesh will be digitalized like the developed nations, it is imperative that we must continue to be on the right track of development and the government should be prepared to face the upcoming challenges in terms of technology. Technology-based initiatives are required to be undertaken to achieve sustainable growth. The pre-requisite for development of a country is to incorporate inclusive development activities which could be only possible when people will be connected with the world with digital assistance. Internet has made such a level playing field for people from all walks of life that they can access all information required to accelerate development efforts. The government therefore should provide free broad band internet connections to all ministries, government offices, semi-government offices, private offices, NGOs, autonomous bodies, research institutions, schools, colleges, universities, shopping mall, tourist spots. At the same time the government should organize training and workshops to develop IT professionals. Providing free mobile internet facilities by the 5 major mobile operators should not be difficult as we now have around 130 million mobile subscribers. Indeed it is high time to provide free internet facilities, 4G facilities and other forms of mobile assistance which will boost our economy through e-business, e-commerce, e-learning, e-governance, e-documentation as well as bring about technological revolution in the country.
