FOOD adulteration is still rampant in our country. Particularly in Dhaka city where we can see fruits sprayed with various kinds of chemicals. Many health complications arise due to such adulteration in food items. There are many people like me who do not buy fruits fearing that they may be contaminated with various chemicals. It is a heinous crime if food that helps us to stay alive and fit is adulterated with spurious and harmful chemicals. Those involved in this act should be awarded exemplary punishment. Laws of the land should be strictly enforced to abate such crimes. If laws are not strictly enforced and the offenders are not adequately punished, the crime will continue to exist and affect our health. Apart from harmful chemicals different kinds of non-food grade colours are also added to food items which are no less harmful than chemicals. Often various colours are added to food items to make them look attractive for the consumers.
Let us be more careful and vocal about what is being sold in our market in the name of food items. The government should regularly monitor the food market and observe the extent of adulteration. Without close monitoring, the public health will be under a grave danger.
