THE Gulshan DCC Market-1 was gutted by a 16-hour-long fire. The whole market was devastated. It was the most popular market in Gulshan area and the merchandise of many shop owners were burnt. Thankfully none was killed or even injured in the fire as it broke out at 2:00 am. But the fire left many small and medium traders in ruins. The market had questionable and inadequate firefighting facilities that proved fatal. Most people generally take safety measures very lightly and they never realise the mistake they are committing before tragedies befall them. If we are aware of the safety rules, we could protect life and properties from being burnt or destroyed. The government should enforce firefighting rules for everybody to protect innocent people and property. It should also equip the fire brigade with modern equipment so that they can give better protection to the citizens and control fire with less time and reduce damages. Firefighting is disrupted on many occasions due to water shortage. We would much appreciate if the shop owners get some compensation from the concerned authorities. Most importantly, people should be conscious about safety of all nature. It is high time that we were careful about fire safety so that we can tackle unwanted situation like fire more efficiently.
