DIGITAL Bangladesh is a buzzword that came to the fore thanks to the ruling political party Awami League. The party in power coined this term before 2008 elections that became popular especially among the young voters which ultimately paved the way for massive electoral victory. One of the ingredients to make a nation digital is internet. Bangladesh has gone a long way to materialize this dream. However, digital Bangladesh is being slowed down by exorbitant prices of internet especially mobile phone internet. The number of mobile phones users is increasing, and so is the number of Mobile data users. Although the government is reducing the price of bandwidth by phases, the price of internet is yet to be lowered to a desired level. The mobile phone companies are doing brisk business with internet. One GB data/ internet is being sold to mobile phone customers at a high price of Tk.250-300 per month validity which is beyond the reach of low income people. The price of 1GB internet should be lowered to TK.50 only with one month validity. We shall highly appreciate if the government takes appropriate measures to get the mobile phones operators to bring down the unjustifiable and exorbitant prices of internet to help accelerate our march towards a Digital Bangladesh.
