EKUSHEY book fair is on. The fair is organised every year in memory of the martyrs of language movement of 1952. February 21 is being celebrated as the mother language day and for a few years now as the International Mother Language Day. The day reminds us of supreme sacrifices made by the golden sons of the soil to establish the rights of our mother tongue. It holds high the pledge and determination to snatch our rights from the colonial rulers.
Ekushey book fair is one of the main attractions of this month and people from almost all walks of life converge together to find out the books and publications in Bangla by eminent writers. It is nice to see people flocking at book stalls, buying books and talking about books and authors. At a time when matters in print are quite few and far between, the popularity of the book fair is increasing steadily.
Ekushey book fair started very humbly on 21st February in 1972 and no one had any idea that it would later bring about a cultural revolution in our country. The Ekushey Book Fair ignites our passion for reading books. I personally wish that the habit of reading books stays with us and makes us more enlightened and knowledgeable.
