Diabetes on rise in urban areas

The number of diabetes patients is increasing worldwide and Bangladesh is no exception. It is high time we learned to lead a healthy way of life and stay away from this disease.

Bangladesh has a population of over 160 million people and the number of diabetes patients is around 9 million. We must not forget that diabetes is a leading cause of death and disability.

China is the home of the highest number of diabetes patients--90 million.  Diabetes is a global health problem and every year we are losing billions of dollars because ofthis. Instead of making the deadly weapons, we should compete to make the cure of diabetes which will save the lives of thousands of people in the world every year.

It is good to see that awareness of diabetes is also increasing and we need to spread it more so that the people can learn about it and remain alert.  We can blame the city life and its stress for the increasing number of diabetes patients.

It is true that in urban areas, citizens face more stress compared to the rural areas.  Let's us fight a battle against diabetes and create a healthy society.
