I was shocked to learn about the death of a journalist, Abdul Hakim who was working for the daily Shomokal. He was caught between a gunfight of two opposing groups of the ruling party in Shahjadpur. A bullet hit him in his head and he died. It is indeed a shocking incident. Some groups of the ruling party are often seen fighting among themselves to establish supremacy in their areas. What is more disconcerting is that the country is becoming increasingly unsafe for journalists, and Hakim is a glaring example. I only hope that the culprit(s) will be detained and law will take its own course. Attack on pressmen is nothing new as we saw Sagar-Runi high-profile murder case which is gathering dust in the file cabinet. It is high time that the citizens united to protect freedom of the press as it is the last resort for democracy and people's rule.
