IT is really good to know that the government is trying to send the migrant workers at a fixed cost for the Saudi manpower market. This will facilitate sending an increasing number of workers to Saudi Arabia.
The migration cost for workers to the Middle Eastern countries is quite exorbitant compared to our neighbouring countries and varies from agency to agency. The cost defies all logic and should be brought down so that more and more people are encouraged to go abroad and work for the benefit of their families and the country. Bangladesh has a large young population and every year thousands of young men and women come out from universities after completing their studies and enter the job market. We cannot provide job opportunities for all of them in the country, so it will be better for us if a large part of them can go out with employment abroad. Country's economy will also get a big boost in this way. I hope the government will explore new manpower markets for our youths through both official and unofficial channels. Our manpower sector is full of anomalies which are impeding smooth migration and discourage the young people to migrate. We should make our migration policy simple and more cost effective so that the educated youth of the country can opt for employment abroad.
