COMMUNAL harmony is an essential precondition for development. It is indeed unfortunate for us that a country with century-old communal harmony is witnessing vandalism against minority Hindu community. For centuries people of this land irrespective of their caste, creed or religion were living in complete harmony with one another. The motive behind the recent attacks on Hindu properties is not known yet and perpetrators are yet to be identified. The law enforcing agencies are up to the task of finding out the criminals and bring them to justice.
It is a situation just short of communal riot and cannot be taken lightly. As citizens we also have the responsibility to keep an eye on situation and inform the concerned authorities of anything untoward if comes to our knowledge. There were occasions in the past when communal disturbances were created by vested circles with an illegal motive to earn material gains. All of us should be on our toes to resist any such attempts. We want to live in complete harmony with the minority population as we have done over thousands of years. The British had a divisive policy to grow and nourish hatred among communities. The common people of the land never wanted anything like that and always cared for peace and harmony to prevail. The incident of communal clash took place in Brahmanbaria following a Hindu boy posting an objectionable picture in the Facebook. The boy did a punishable offence by posting such an image which is blasphemous. He must be brought to justice for hurting the religious feelings of the Muslims. At the same time, the entire Hindu community should not be made a target and subjected to harassment in any form.
