Two months' service trade stands at $2 billion

Country’s trade in services with the rest of the world stood at $2102 million ($2.10 billion) in July-August period of the current fiscal year (FY178).

Statistics available with Bangladesh Bank showed that receipt from the service export stood at $662 million in the first two months of the current fiscal year.

It was around 24 per cent higher than the value of service exported in the same period of the past fiscal year (FY17).

On the other hand, payment for the import of service reached at $1440 million during the period under review registering around 33 per cent growth compare to the same period of the past fiscal year.

Thus trade gap in service stood at $778 million in the first two months of the current fiscal year.

The gap was $551 million in July-August period of the past fiscal year.

Service trade generally includes travel, transport, and financial services.
