Two-day gas turbine tech seminar begins

A two-day gas-turbine-technology seminar organised by Mitsubishi Power kicked off at a city hotel on Sunday.

The seminar aims at discussing the latest solutions and services in the power-generation industry to advance energy security and de-carbonisation.

Mitsubishi Power is a power solutions brand of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

Secretary of Power Division under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MPEMR), Chairman of Bangladesh Power Development Board Md Mahbubur Rahman, and Deputy Chief of Mission from Japan Embassy Machida Tatsuya were among others present at the opening session of the seminar.

Speaking on the occasion, the power secretary hoped that Mitsubishi Power would be with them in achieving the target of 40,000 megawatt power generation by 2030.

He also focused on the country's interest in hydrogen technology under 'Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan' that seeks cleaner renewable energy sources such as green hydrogen and blue hydrogen.

"Bangladesh was the first Asia Pacific country where Mitsubishi Power successfully delivered a steam turbine back in 1960," said Osamu Ono, managing director and chief executive officer of Mitsubishi Power Asia Pacific.

"Since then, we have remained committed to our mandate and today, are responsible for approximately 20 per cent of Bangladesh's total energy production," he said.

The country has immense potential for growth, fueled by progress in its power sector, Ono added.

"Together with our valued partners and customers, we are committed to supporting Bangladesh in realising its energy needs and achieving net zero emission," Ono continued.

A number of government officials, industry leaders and local partners took part in the session.
