The National SME Product Fair 2020 concluded here on Friday, receiving a good response from the visitors and buyers.

The organisers and stall owners expressed satisfaction over the spot sales and orders as they found interests in locally made products among the consumers and buyers during the fair.

"The fair received a good response from the visitors," said Md Safiqul Islam, Managing Director of SME Foundation, organiser of the eighth edition of the fair.

The organisers could not, however, provide this year's sales figure immediately.

In 2019, according to the SME Foundation, the spot sales and orders stood at nearly Tk 169.31 million and Tk 301.21 million respectively.

Mr. Islam said this year's event has helped the SME entrepreneurs a lot in promoting marketing and networking at home and abroad.

No foreign product has been allowed to display which is another feature of the fair, he said, adding that more than 60 per cent of the participants were women entrepreneurs.

A total of 296 entrepreneurs - 195 women and 101 men - joined the fair with setting up 309 stalls.

They showcased locally made products such as eco-friendly jute goods, agriculture, food and leather items, and electronics and electrical goods at the fair in the capital.

The organisers and stall owners said they displayed quality and diversified products which attracted the customers. Diplomats from different countries, who visited the fair, also praised the diversified products and organisers for arranging the fair, they added.

They said the SME entrepreneurs had the opportunity to learn different types of contemporary business issues like e-commerce and how to build up networking and e-networking among the entrepreneurs and reach local and foreign customers to expand their business.

Jasim, 33, who is an apprentice lawyer, said he visits the exhibition every year as the fair displays different products. He could buy some eco-friendly jute products at cheaper price, he added.

Rubel Ahmed, marketing manager of Imtex Packaging, said his company showcased food processing and packaging machinery for chanachur and chips, powdered drinks, paste and liquid, liquid ice-cream and so on. His company came to the fair for building a network with the customers and entrepreneurs, Mr. Ahmed said.
