Seven special monitoring teams to control rice prices

The government has formed seven special monitoring committees to control prices of rice in the market.

The committees will inspect the wholesale markets under Dhaka metropolitan area to monitor prices of rice and flour and submit reports in this regard.

The monitoring committees — four under the food ministry and three under the food directorate — were formed to check price hike of food grains, assist low income groups, keep market price stable and ensure fair price of food grains to farmers, said a press release of the food ministry on Wednesday.

The food ministry took the initiative in a bid to check the rising prices of the staple food in the market through illegal means, said the ministry.

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder gave necessary directives to the officers concerned of the ministry in this regard.

The food minister also ordered to take stern legal actions if anybody tries to make rice market unstable.

Joint Secretary Kamar Jahan will lead monitoring committee-1 under food ministry, Deputy Secretary Raina Ahmed will head the committee-2, Deputy Secretary Md Shamim Hasan will lead Commiittee-3 while Assistant Secretary Most. Tahmina Khanam the committee-4.

The monitoring committee-1 under Directorate General of Food was formed headed by Additional Director Reza Mohammad Mohsin, Committee-2 headed by Senior Instructor Nakib Sad Saiful Islam and Committee-3 headed by Additional Director Md Amjad Hossain.
