Secondary trading of t-bills, bonds jumps in March

Secondary trading of treasury bills and bonds jumped in March this year, according to the latest statistics of the central bank.

Total turnover increased to Tk 27.78 billion in March from Tk 5.01 billion in February this year, the data showed.

The secondary trading of treasury-bills and bonds, also known as t-bills and bonds, has been conducted through primary dealers.

Total turnover of the t-bills and t-bonds in the secondary trading stood at Tk 282.91 billion in the past calendar year.

Currently, 20 commercial banks are performing as primary dealers, participating directly in the primary auctions.

Other bank and nonbank investors can participate in primary auctions and in secondary trading through their nominated primary dealers.

Non-resident individual and institutional investors can also participate in primary and secondary trading, but only in treasury bonds.

T-bonds are long-term fixed income government securities while t-bills are short-term in nature.
