Robbery continues unabated at various spots on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, causing concern among the country's exporters.

Among a series of incidents, a covered van carrying finished fabrics for exports by Nice Denim was looted on 12 November this year at Fakirhat in Chittagong, according to Zaber and Zubair Fabrics Bangladesh.

Earlier, another goods-laden truck of Saad Saan Apparels was robbed on 27 October near Sitakunda on Dhaka-Chittagong highway, the country's leading exporter said in a press release.

In another incident, export goods of Zaber and Zubair worth Tk 5.0 million were looted at Narayanganj on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway on 03 June last year, it mentioned.

Moreover, cotton worth Tk 4.45 million was looted from the two covered vans near Comilla Cantonment area in December the same year.

Of various highway robbery incidents, the law enforcers could recover only 13,501 pieces of ready-made garment which were looted at Sitakunda on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.

The authorities concerned receiving complaints from the victims could not even trace any other goods, said the press release.

Noman Group has recently informed the police, RAB and relevant department about various highway robbery incidents, the release said.

Sources said the incidents of robbery on Dhaka-Chittagong highway is on the rise despite regular patrol by the police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

Exporters fear that the country might not achieve the export target of $ 50 billion by 2021 if such a trend continues.
