Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction team has successfully installed the reactor support truss at its Unit 1 recently.
The role of the support truss, which was installed on Sunday last, is to fix the reactor vessel in place and to bear its weight loads, says a press release received today (Tuesday).
The support truss was installed as per the design, prepared by Atomstroyexport (ASE), engineering division of Russia’s state corporation - Rosatom. Atomstroyexport is the general designer and general contractor of the project, the statement added.
“It is a very complicated job which needs maximum possible accuracy. Installation was completed ahead of schedule thanks to well co-ordinated efforts of our employees and the people of the construction site,” said Sergey Lastochkin, ASE Vice-President and Director for Rooppur NPP Construction Project.
“Construction works of Units 1 and 2 are progressing according to schedule,” Lastochkin further noted.
Rooppur NPP is being constructed according to Russian design. The project will have two units with generation 3+ VVER 1200 reactors. The first unit of 1,200 Mw capacity is expected to be in operation by 2023 and the second one with same capacity in 2024.
The reactor for Unit 1 is scheduled to arrive Bangladesh in 2020.
