Public sector tenders through e-GP platform reach 0.4m

The number of public sector tenders invited through the e-GP platform in the last nine years reached 0.4 million on Wednesday, government procurement watchdog CPTU said.

To date, the ministries and agencies invited the tenders online for procuring goods, services and work worth Tk 410 trillion, the Central Technical and Procurement Unit (CPTU) under the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) said on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally launched the e-GP Portal on June 02, 2011 as part of digitising public services.

In 2011, the online tendering was piloted in four large procuring agencies, including Local Government Engineering Department, Roads and Highways Department, Bangladesh Water Development Board and Rural Electrification Board.

The government introduced ICT-based digital procurement system for eliminating physical hassles, ensuring transparency and accountability and saving time and costs in public purchases.

The CPTU started implementing e-GP across the government’s procuring agencies in mid-2012.

According to the CPTU, a total of 1,343 government agencies out of 1,365 in the country got registered with the e-GP system until July 22.

Meanwhile, the number of tenders or contractors registered with e-GP stood at 74,395.

About 80 per cent of the Annual Development Programme (ADP) and 45 per cent of the National Budget are spent on public procurement.
