Policy, finance obstacles for SME before going e-commerce: Speakers

Policy support and finance are the key challenges for the small and medium entrepreneurs before going in the e-commerce market.

Speakers came up with the observations at a seminar held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) on Friday.

The programme titled E-Commerce Market: Facilitating Small Start-ups to Grow was jointly organised by Ministry of Industries, SME Foundation and Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).      

The speakers also noted that net-neutrality, high-speed net, electronic transaction methods, lack of online payment facilities, parcel delivery logistics, and quality assurance of products are the key challenges for the e-commerce market in Bangladesh.

Entry of large foreign providers poses risk to local start-ups and risk capital finance is also needed to reach to profit, the discussants said.  

Muhammad Abdullah, secretary of Ministry of Industries was present as the chief guest.

Shafiqul Islam, managing director of SME Foundation chaired the event while Priti Chakraborty director of the FBCCI was also present at the ceremony as the special guest.

Dr M. Rokonuzzaman, professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of North South University, presented the keynote paper.
