Phones, components top Vietnam's export revenue in nine months

Phones and components led Vietnamese export items between January and September, with value of nearly 38.6 billion US dollars, posting a year-on-year increase of 5.1 per cent and accounting for 19.9 per cent of Vietnam's total export revenue, according to the country's General Statistics Office on Wednesday.

In September alone, Vietnam raked in 5.2 billion US dollars from selling the products overseas, up 2.3 per cent on-year.

The country also spent roughly 10.7 billion US dollars importing phones and their components in the nine-month period, down 2.9 per cent.

In 2018, phones and components were Vietnam's biggest foreign currency earner, with turnovers of more than 50 billion US dollars, increasing 10.5 per cent and accounting for over 20 per cent of its total export revenue, said the office.
