Online payment of land related taxes is expected to begin from next month as part of the government's move to digitalise the country's land management system, according to land ministry officials.

Earlier, the land ministry has taken initiative to help the people pay land development taxes online.

The ministry at a meeting last week decided to introduce the digital payment system of land taxes in some districts from next month.

It has taken the move in line with the government's election pledge to digitise the land management system and automation for payment of land related taxes without involvement of middlemen.

"We have taken initiative for setting up an online land development tax payment system. We hope that we will be able to install the system in some districts from next month," land secretary Md. Muksodur Rahman Patwary told the FE on Friday.

He said the process of introducing online payment system of land development taxes is going on and it will be completed by this month.

The land secretary said the 'national committee on monitoring and reviewing land services digitisation' in its first meeting held last week at the ministry discussed the issue to ensure hassle-free services for the people digitally.

Land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury urged the officials concerned to complete the ongoing work of setting up the online land development tax payment system within the stipulated time, he added.

Mr Patwary said an account would be opened with Sonali Bank so that people could pay their land related taxes through different online mobile payment systems like bKash, Nagad and others.

Initially, the system will be set up in Dhaka, Gopalganj, Jamalpur and Kishoreganj districts. And later, the system will be expanded gradually to other districts of the country.

Earlier, the land ministry had taken another initiative for 'integration of NID database information with all land services including e-mutation' and 'integration of e-mutation with record of rights (ROR/Khatiyan) of mouza concerned.
