Nilphamari Darwani Textile Mill resumes operation

State-owned Darwani Textile Mill in Nilphamari has resumed operation recently after remaining closed for more than 21 years.

The mill, situated at Nilphamari municitality area, was established in 1980 to produce yarn and related products. The government had stopped operation of mill in the year 1995 facing continuous loss.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the production at a ceremony recently.   

Bangladesh Textile Mill Corporation (BTMC) Chairman Brigadier General Mahboob Ahamed Zakaria presided over the function.

Deputy Commissioner of Nilphamari MD Khaled Rahim, District council Chairman Joynal Abedin, Superintendent of  Police Nilhpamari Zakir Hossain, AGM of BTMC Kazi Firoz Hossain, AGM of Darwani Textile Mill Mozibur Rahman,  Nilphamari Municipality Mayor Dewan Kamal Ahamed were present at the programme, among others.

At the initial stage there were 704 workers, 97 officials and 25 officers in the mill.

The employees and workers of the mill as well as local people hope that resuming production may create job opportunity for them.
