The VAT intelligence wing has filed a case against advertising firm Adcomm Limited for allegedly evading taxes worth Tk 57.6 million.

In an investigation, the VAT audit, inspection and intelligence directorate found the firm has not deposited VAT to the public exchequer after collecting from the customers.

It alleged that the company has been running businesses by dodging VAT for a longer period of time, said a statement of the directorate of National Board of Revenue (NBR).

The organisation has evaded VAT worth Tk 23.3 million on account of selling services through advertisement.

It has dodged VAT worth Tk 0.1 million that was payable on its space rent. The organisation has also evaded VAT worth Tk 4.1 million by not paying VAT at source.

Total payable VAT of the organisation is Tk 57.6 million, including 2.0 per cent interest per month that is payable for not depositing VAT on time.

On April 14 last year, assistant director of the VAT intelligence Khawzah Ahmed Talukder led a raid on the premises of the organisation at Tejgoan in the city. They have seized all commercial documents.

The team has investigated business activity between fiscal 2013-14 and 2017-18 period. They have filed the case after a detailed scrutiny of the documents with the VAT returns of the organisation.

The VAT intelligence has handed over the issue to the Dhaka South Zone and requested to monitor it strictly as a vulnerable organisation for VAT evasion.
