The National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Wednesday honoured 141 highest income taxpayers at the national level for the fiscal year of 2021-2022 with tax cards, crests and certificates at a programme held at the Officers' Club in Dhaka.
Of the recipients, 76 individuals, 53 companies, and 12 in other categories have been selected as the highest and long-term best taxpayers after scrutinising the tax payments of taxpayers across the country.
Moreover, the best taxpayers at each district and city corporation level will be awarded regionally.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal attended the event as the chief guest where NBR Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul handed over the awards to the highest taxpayers.
Mustafa Kamal said tax collection has marked an outstanding growth in the last 10 years due to the contribution of top taxpayers.
"The contribution to the national revenue earning has been 14 to 15 per cent during this period," he said.
The finance minister said development projects like metro rail is the contribution of taxpayers of the country.
He urged the taxpayers to look after neighbours, who are needy, alongside paying taxes.
Senior Secretary of Finance Division Fatima Yasmin was also present at the programme as a special guest.
The NBR selected the following top taxpayers as per the National Tax Card Policy 2010 (amended):
Banking category: Standard Chartered Bank Ltd, Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd, the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd, and Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd.
Non-banking financial institution category: Infrastructure Development Company Limited, IDLC Finance Limited, Investment Corporation of Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Limited.
Leather industry category: Bata Shoe Company (Bangladesh) Ltd, Alliance Leather Goods and Footwear Ltd, and Lalmai Footwear Ltd.
Food and beverage category: Olympic Industries Ltd, and Pran Dairy Ltd. And Square Food and Beverage Ltd.
Journalist category: Faridur Reza, Mahfuz Anam, Matiur Rahman, Shaikh Siraj and Naim Nizam.
Senior citizen category: Kaush Miah, Khwaja Tajmahal, Fazlur Rahman, M Sahabuddin Ahmed and Khandkar Badrul Hasan.
Gazetted injured freedom-fighters: A Matin Chowdhury, Md Nasir Uddin Mridha, Dr. Md. Amzad Hossain, Md Joynal Abedin, and Lt Gen Abu Saleh Md. Nasim (rtd).
Physically-challenged taxpayers: Akram Mahmud, Dr Md Mamunur Rashid, and Lubna Nigar.
