Move taken to ensure smooth services at land offices

The ministry of land has taken an initiative to monitor activities at the land offices at the grassroots level in order to ensure hassle-free and smooth services to the service seekers, officials said.

In a circular issued by the ministry recently, it asked the officials and project directors concerned to pay regular visits to the land offices to see whether the clients are receiving proper services.

They have also been asked to establish a direct connection between the land secretary and the service seekers through video call to boost the people's confidence on the services being rendered by the land offices.

"We have instructed our ministry officials concerned to visit land offices at the grassroots level to monitor whether the clients are getting proper services," land secretary Md Muksodur Rahman Patwary told the FE.

He also confirmed that the officials have now been visiting land offices regularly.

"We will take action against the officials responsible for harassing the service seekers," he said while replying to a query about alleged corruption resorted to by a section of land officials.

Earlier, Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury soon after taking over charges has categorically said that his ministry will adopt 'zero tolerance' policy against corruption in land offices.

Following the minister's directives, several initiatives such as setting up hotlines, providing land mutation services online and automation of land offices have been taken for the betterment of the clients.

The land secretary said he had visited revenue circle offices at Demra, Motijheel and Sutrapur areas in the city on January 13.

He also said some officials at the grassroots level offices were suspended over their involvement in alleged irregularities in the offices during the ongoing visit programme.

Among the suspended and transferred land officials were mutation-cum-certificate assistant (nazir) and office assistant who failed to comply with a legal order to send a copy of a miss case issued by the assistant commissioner (Land) of Dhaka Kotowali Revenue Circle.

Mr Patwary said the ministry will provide rewards to honest and dedicated officials for their best services to the clients.

He also said he had directed the deputy commissioners to give directives to the land offices under their respective jurisdictions so that the clients could receive smooth and hassle-free services.
