Monitoring cell for pvt airlines soon to boost aviation sector: Minister

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM Shajahan Kamal has said the ministry will form a monitoring cell for private airlines to further improve country's aviation sector.

The Cox's Bazar airport will be upgraded to international standards to attract more tourists, the Minister said, adding that its runway will also be extended by 10,000 feet so that Boeing 777 aircraft can land there.

Shajahan Kamal was addressing the US-Bangla Airlines' 2nd Customer Success Summit - 2018 as a chief guest at Cox's Bazar Long Beach Hotel on Saturday.

The Managing Director of the airlines Muhammad Abdullah Al-Mamun said they will soon start air services on Dhaka-China's Ginseng root.

"We will add several fresh aircrafts to our fleets, including three Dash8-Q400, three Boeing 737-800 and two Boeing 777-300 ERs by this year," he hoped.

He also said that the company is currently running 300 flights on both domestic and international routes in a week.

The airlines, at the function, awarded crests and certificates of appreciation among its best seller travel agents.

At least 800 representatives of travel agent companies and corporate offices of several countries joined the summit where Canadian High Commissioner Benoit Perfontaine was also present, reports UNB.
