Country’s Islamic banks shared about 19.10 per cent of the total banking assets in the past year, according to an estimation of the central bank.
The Bangladesh Bank estimation showed that total assets of the Islamic banks stood at Tk 2.78 trillion in 2018 against the total banking assets worth Tk 14.56 trillion in the country.
Total liabilities of the Islamic banks stood at Tk 2.63 trillion in the previous year which was around 19.40 per cent of the total liabilities amounting to Tk 13.64 trillion.
Currently, there are eight full-fledged Islamic banks operating in the country.
Besides these, 19 Islamic banking branches of nine regular or conventional commercial banks and 35 Islamic banking windows of seven conventional commercial banks are also providing Islamic financial services in the country.
