Annual internet banking transactions in the country dropped significantly in the past year, according to the central bank statistics.
It showed that the value of internet banking transaction stood at Tk 324.70 billion in 2018, which was Tk 364.80 billion in 2017.
Thus, internet banking transaction dropped by 11 per cent or Tk 40.10 billion in the past year.
Annual transaction of internet banking was Tk 307.50 billion in 2016.
Financial Stability Report 2018, released by Bangladesh Bank, also showed that 46 banks provided internet banking service in the past year, which was 36 in 2017.
Despite an increase in the number of banks providing internet banking service, it is not clear why the total transaction through internet banking dropped in the past year.
