Indo-Bangla trade secretary level talk after 14 months

The commerce secretary level talk between Bangladesh and India will take place in Dhaka after around 14 months.

Commerce secretary of Bangladesh Mr Shubhashis Basu will lead the 16-memeber delegation in the two-day talk which starts here on Wednesday.

His counterpart Ms Rita Teaotia will lead the Indian side. Indian official delegation has already arrived in Dhaka.

In the meeting, two parties will discuss on the development of infrastructure in the boarder customs stations, enhancement of the border hatts, anti-dumping duty imposed by India on Bangladeshi products, acknowledging the BSTI certificate in India, export to third country from Bangladesh using Indian airports etc.

The last bilateral meeting of the Indo-Bangla commerce secretary took place in New Delhi on November 15-16, 2016.

Indo-Bangla bilateral merchandise trade stood at $6.81 billion in the past fiscal year which was $6.14 billion in FY16.

Bangladesh’s export to India stood at $672.4 million against the import of $6.14 billion pushing the trade gap at $5.47 billion in FY17.
