Govt to purchase paddy from marginal farmers

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on Wednesday said paddy will be purchased from marginal farmers at a fair price to avoid any sort of irregularities in the agriculture sector.

The authorities concerned should purchase paddy from the growers directly so that middle men won’t be able to gain through creating unfair situation, he told the inaugural function of paddy at Sutrapur in Bogura, reports BSS.

Bogura District Food Division organised the paddy procurement initiative aiming to stop any unfair practices.

Majumdar said, “Any kind of irregularities regarding paddy collection will not be tolerated… tougher action will be taken against the responsible person.”

Rajshahi Divisional Food Controller Md Moniruzzman, officials of different government organizations, among others, addressed the paddy collection function with deputy commissioner Foyez Ahmed in the chair.

Bogura District Food Controller SM Saiful Islam said price of rice has been fixed at Taka 36, paddy at Taka 26 and raw rice (atap rice) at Taka 35. A total of 78,356 tonnes of rice will be procured this year while 5,586 tonnes of paddy and 7,046 tonnes of raw rice will be collected, he added.
