Govt to import 0.2m tonnes rice, wheat

The government has decided to import soon a total of 0.2 million tonnes of non-basmati boiled rice and wheat from India and Korea.
The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) Wednesday gave approval to two separate proposals in this regard.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith presided over the meeting held at the cabinet division.

"The government will buy 0.15 million tonnes of non-basmati boiled rice from the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India  (NAFED)under government-to-government level agreement," Mustafizur Rahman, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division, told journalists after the
meeting.

"The procurement price for per tonne rice has been fixed at US$440. So, the cost will be Taka 5478 million to purchase the rice," he added. He said the government will also procure 0.05 million tonnes of wheat from Korean Singsong Food Corporation, according to a BSS report.

"As a tonne of wheat $245.35, the cost would be Taka 1018.2 million for procuring the wheat," he added.
