Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC) is going to build a chemical warehouse in Gazipur City Corporation area for relocating risky chemicals from Old Dhaka.
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday approved the “Chemical Warehouse Construction” project involving Tk 917.4 million. The construction work will be completed in June 2020.
Chairman of the BSEC Mizanur Rahman said a total of 53 chemical storages will be built and all necessary safety measures in order to fight any fire hazards will be ensured.
After implementation of the project, he said, the process of relocating the chemical warehouses from the old Dhaka area will accelerate. The initiative will expedite environment-friendly industrialisation and increase productivity in industries, he added.
He said the project has been taken in line with the Vision-2021, Sustainable Development Goals and the Seventh Five-Year Plan.
“It’s a temporary initiative taken by the government on an emergency basis. But the government is working to find a permanent solution to the problem of chemical storage in the country,” Mizanur added, reports BSS.
