Govt suspends routine tours to cut spending

The government has suspended routine tours under the operation and development budgets as part of austerity measures during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a notification issued on Sunday, the ministry of finance also suspended 50 per cent of the allocations made for public sector tours during the current fiscal year (FY), 2020-21.

The funds can be utilised only for emergency and essential tours, it said.

The measure has been taken to ensure optimum use of limited resources available, the notification added.

A few days back, the government also suspended fund release for implementation of the low-priority projects in the new fiscal year through a notification.

It said the ministries, divisions and departments will continue to implement the high-priority projects.

In case of the medium-priority projects, they will spend money if they found it compulsory. In this case, they were asked to avoid spending money as much as possible.

For the low-priority projects, the notification said fund release will remain suspended for the time being.
