The government has set a target to increase the capacity of yearly motorcycle production to 1.0 million and to create an employment opportunities for 1.5 million people in this sector by 2027.
The information was revealed at a coordination committee meeting for implementation of ‘Motorcycle Industry Development Policy-2018’ at the industries ministry on Sunday, reports BSS quoting a press release.
Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun presided over the meeting while State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder and Industries Secretary M Abdul Halim, among others, were present.
Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun said the government is providing all sorts of policy support to the motorcycle industry aimed at building a developed Bangladesh.
“The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) is working to maintain the standard of accessories of the motorcycle industry. Bangladesh Industrial and Technical Assistance Centre (BITAC) is giving necessary supports to the entrepreneurs,” he added.
Kamal Mojumder asked the motorcycle producing companies to send the list of sold motorcycle to the local district administration, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and Industries Ministry to remove tax evasion in the motorcycle registration sector.
