Govt fixes retail price of potato at Tk 35 a kg

The government reviewed the maximum retail price of potato at Tk 35 a kg on Tuesday amid urgency from traders.

Maximum cold storage level price has been re-fixed at Tk 27 and wholesale level price at Tk 30 a kg.

Director General of the Department of Agricultural Marketing (DAM) Mohammad Yusuf came up with the information after a meeting with the representatives of cold storage owners, wholesale traders and concern government agencies on Tuesday at DAM office.

The DAM organised the meeting following supply shortage of potato in the markets as traders were reluctant to sell the produce as earlier fixed rate.

Earlier, maximum retail price was fixed at Tk 30 a kg by the DAM on October 14.

The department then fixed cold storage prices at Tk 23 and wholesale prices at Tk 25 a kg.

The potato was sold at Tk 45-55 a kg in the city markets on Tuesday, according to market sources.

Bangladesh Cold Storage Association (BCSA) president Md Mosharraf Hossain was present at the meeting, among others.
