GE wins two 9HA-based power projects in BD

GE Power (NYSE: GE) has announced that MYTILINEOS S.A., a leading Greek industrial company, has ordered a GE 9HA.02 gas turbine to be the heart of one of the largest natural gas-fired combined cycle power plants in Europe - the Agios Nikolaos Power Plant in Greece. This order also marks the 100th unit of GE’s HA gas turbine ordered, the world’s fastest growing fleet of gas turbines. The 9HA.02 is GE’s largest and most efficient gas turbine that powers the world’s most efficient combined-cycle power plant.

This order also includes a GE steam turbine and generator, as well as a 15-year services agreement. Located in Voiotia region of central Greece, the Agios Nikolaos Power Plant will produce 826 megawatts (MW) and construction on the plant is planned to begin in the fourth quarter of 2019. The power plant is planned to begin commercial operation in late 2021.

"GE is honored to work with MYTILINEOS to bring the first HA gas turbine to Greece and to mark an incredible milestone of 100 HA gas turbine orders, all while helping modernize the Agios Nikolaos CCPP Power Plant with the HA’s record-setting performance and efficiency," said Scott Strazik, President and CEO of GE’s Gas Power business.

Today, GE’s HA gas turbines have achieved several notable milestones: the 40 HA units in commercial operation across the globe have achieved more than 415,000 operating hours, supplying more than 18 gigawatts (GW) of power to the grid, or the equivalent electricity needed to power more than 13.5 million US homes.

GE has secured these 100 unit orders from 40 customers across more than 18 countries. In Bangladesh, GE has won orders from Summit Power and Unique Group entailing the installation of 9HA gas turbines, as part of the turnkey scope, in the upcoming combined-cycle gas-based power plants. The power plants will be operational by 2022.

“Today, supplying uninterrupted electricity to all is key for the Government of Bangladesh and path-breaking technologies like the HA can play a significant role. As GE’s HA technology evolves, it continues to power hopes of the millions across the world including Bangladesh, generating reliable and affordable power,” said Deepesh Nanda, CEO, Gas Power Systems, GE South Asia.
