FBCCI stresses promoting job-oriented education

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) stressed the need for promoting job-oriented education aiming to create employment and reduce poverty in the country.

The apex trade body laid focus on the issue at a meeting of its standing committee on poverty alleviation and rural development held at FBCCI office in the capital's Motijheel area on Wednesday.

Business leaders at the meeting observed that the government has taken several initiatives to free the country from poverty and ensure rural development.

To this end, enough importance will have to be attached to job-oriented education for creating more employment as well as removing regional discrimination through proper utilisation of wealth, they noted.

Every year, several thousand students complete their graduation from different universities but due to lack of job- oriented education, the rate of unemployment continues to remain high, they viewed.

They recommended bringing in a time-befitting technical education system as per the requirement of the country's industrial and agriculture sectors for creating jobs and alleviating poverty. Senior vice-president of FBCCI Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had a dream to remove economic discrimination in the country.

He called upon the businessmen to come forward side by side with the government to reduce the rate of poverty.

Director-in-charge of the FBCCI standing committee Hasina Newaz said as per the World Bank standard, Bangladesh is graduating towards a middle-income country status but poverty still exists in some areas including the rural ones.
