Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president Sheikh Fazle Fahim stressed the need for technology and knowledge transfer to avail Bangladesh's production competitive edge.

"Foreign investors with technology and knowledge transfer could avail the opportunity of Bangladesh's production competitive edge, domestic consumer base, regional market access, DFQF to India, EU, Canada, Australia and APTA."

Mr Fahim in a keynote made the observations during a virtual conference of the Business Associations of South and Southeast Asian countries on Friday.

China Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Sichuan Council hosted the 'China (Sichuan)-South and Southeast Asia Business Leaders Online Conference Opening Ceremony and 2020 Online Products Exhibition for South and Southeast Asia Countries'.

Mr Fahim cited trade and investment opportunities between South and South-east Asian nations.

"This year marks the 100th birth centenary of our Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who had left a legacy of forging south-south interregional collaboration that resonates with today's programme," he said.

Mr Fahim said the current Covid-19 outbreak is volatile and its impact on the economy is astounding.

The FBCCI modestly joined in some initiatives in addition to independently extending international goodwill gestures, including the one to Sichuan CCPIT.

"Trade is also making a strong recovery," Mr Fahim mentioned.

"Bangladesh is one of the five top-performing destinations for most MNCs, and our ROI makes us an attractive destination with IP protection in place for technology transfer."

The chief of the apex trade body said investment benefits of tax, tariff, incentives, 100-per cent ownership, profit, dividend repatriation are among the most favourable advantages for investment here.

CCPIT Sichuan Council president Huang Li, among others, addressed the conference. International Organisation for Standardisation former president Zhang Xiaogang, also senior strategic consultant of National South Asian Standardisation (Chengdu) Research Centre, and SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Iftikhar Ali Malik joined the event.

Guo Chuanwei, director of Trade and Investment Division of ASEAN-China Centre, among others, also joined the virtual conference.
