Delegation to visit Belgium, Netherlands to boost FDI inflow, bi-lateral trade

A 50-member delegation will visit Belgium and the Netherlands on April 18 aiming to attract foreign direct investment (FDI), explore non-RMG export potentiality and enhance bi-lateral trade relations between the countries.

The delegation, led by Kazi M Aminul Islam executive chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), will be comprised of high government officials from shipping and water resources ministries and Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority and Public Private Partnership Authority (PPPA) and leaders from Dutch-Bangla Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DBCCI) and other private sectors including agriculture and IT.

“The main objectives of the weeklong visit are not only to attract FDI, but also to explore market potentiality especially for agricultural products and IT and enhance bi-lateral trade among the countries,” Faruque Hassan president of DBCCI said while addressing a press conference held in the city.

Bangladesh produces a large quantity of tomato and potato and we will explore export potentiality there, he said adding discussions will also be held to import capital machinery from there and infrastructure development of the country.

Bangladesh exported products worth $1.0 billion to the Netherlands while imports $200 million, Mr Islam said explaining government’s steps in attracting FDI.
