A day-long e-commerce fair in Mymensingh was organised on Saturday with the aim to make online-based services popular among people of all walks of life outside of the capital.
The fair, which took place at Town Hall of the city with the participation of country's top e-commerce sites and other online-based platforms, attracted a huge number of visitors, said the organisers.
Bangladesh Post Office (BPO) and E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (ECAB) jointly organised the event.
BPO's immediate past Director General Shushanta Kumar Mondal inaugurated the fair as the chief guest. Abdul Wahed Tomal, general secretary of the e-CAB chaired it.
Talking to the FE, Tomal said BPO and the fair specially attracted young people and the visitors bought various types of products ahead of Eid festival.
Through this fair, the e-CAB wants to extend and expand the e-commerce business across the country as it is still based on Dhaka, he said.
31 stalls at the fair, including two pavilions and three mini pavilions were set up.
The e-CAB is organising a series of fairs across eight divisional headquarters which started in Chattogram and will end May 18 in Dhaka.
At the fair, country's largest e-commerce delivery network -e-post, rokomari, priyoshop, grameenphone's e-commerce site Shoparu, singer, totthoapa, foodcorner, a2i, creative IT and others participated in the fair.
Besides, three seminars for entrepreneurs, consumers and investors were held during the fair.
Participating organisations declared discount, shopping voucher and other gifts for the visitors.
In addition, there was raffle draw at every hour where visitor won mobile and other gift items.
The visitors received one litre of edible oil through downloading app. They got different gifts like book after attending the fair.
The fair remained open for all the visitors from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
Asikul Alam Khan, founder & CEO of PriyoShop.com, among others, was present on the occasion.
The e-CAB partnered with the BPO as it wants to use platform as the main delivery channel for e-commerce in the coming days.
