Ctg Airport becomes automated

Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport (SAIA), the second largest international airport of the country, has introduced two important systems - automation system and exit note systems - under the ASICUDA world of National Board of Revenue (NBR).

Officials said the two systems have remained operational from Sunday night.

Commissioner of Chattogram Customs House Md Fakhrul Alam inaugurated the systems as the chief guest at a ceremony in the afternoon.

Additional Commissioner of Chattogram Customs House Kazi Mohammed Zia Uddin, Joint Commissioner Md Mahabub Hasan, Deputy Commissioner Md Riadul Islam, Assistant Director of Customs Intelligence Department Tanvir Ahamed, Manager of Sonali Bank Limited's SAIA branch Md Tauhidul Goni Chowdhury, Cargo Superintendent of SAIA Kazi Khairul Kabir and Joint Secretary of C & F Agents' Association Kazi Mahmud Imam were present at the inaugural function.

"With introduction of the automation system at the SAIA, the air passengers can easily pay their air-freight through Sonali Bank from now," said Customs House Commissioner Fakhrul Alam.

Earlier, the passengers were required to make payment for the air-freight going to the customs house. Now, they can pay it at the airport," he added.

Officials said, the SAIA, named after an Islamic saint Hazrat Shah Amanat (R), is an international airport serving travellers, including domestic and international passengers, businesses, transporting goods and handling cargos for import and export in the south-eastern divisional city and business hub of the country. It is also serving the Bangladesh Air Force.

This is Bangladesh's second prime airport too, they mentioned, Over 0.3 million passengers, both domestic and international ones, travel through this airport. It was formerly known as M A Hanan International Airport but was renamed on April 2, 2005, they added.
