Foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said on Thursday no country in the Middle East has sought any medical certificate from Bangladeshi workers.

Middle East states have also assured Dhaka of extending visa for those who cannot return to the workplace due to coronavirus-related restrictions.

"A lot of confusion arises among Bangladeshi workers in the wake of the spread of coronavirus. Those who came home are given contradictory information," Mr Momen said.

"That's why, we have discussed those issues today," he told newsmen after a joint meeting with the envoys of the Middle Eastern countries in Dhaka.

Both Saudi and UAE envoys told Dhaka that there is no bar to the workers who came to Bangladesh.

But upon their return, the workers have to remain in quarantine for 14 days. It is mandatory for all the countries, the minister cited.

On the other hand, Qatari and Kuwaiti envoys said Bangladeshis will get a visa extension if their visas expire due to restrictions on the arrival of foreign workers, he said.

Mr Momen urged the Bangladeshi expatriates not to come home at the moment unless there is any emergency.

"I request my respected expatriate brothers and sisters to abide by the rule of the countries where they are living now."

"They should also consider the fact that they have to be in quarantine for 14 days after arriving home," the minister mentioned.

He said the Bangladeshi missions abroad will remain open round the clock to provide assistance of any type to the expatriates.
