Commerce ministry holds TOT programme for professionals

The ministry of commerce, financed by the World Bank Group (WBG), has organised a Training Of Trainers (ToT) programme for industry professionals in the country.

The project, titled Export Competitiveness for Jobs (EC4J), ensured the TOT training on environmental, social and quality (ESQ) of 23 batches under four targeted sectors, says a media release.

The sectors are-- Leather Goods & Footwear, Tannery, Light Engineering & Plastics with regard to seven specified subjects.

The training programme was facilitated by E-Zone HRM Limited, monitored by the business promotional council (BPC), and organised by the EC4J, said the release.

A total of 449 trainees (396 male and 53 female) from 187 institutions around the country participated in the training programme to enhance their understanding of ESQ compliance.

The trainees will receive certificate from B-ADVANCY, a UK based internationally acclaimed certifying authority, reads the press release.

The inauguration of the Basic ESQ Training and ToT certificate giving ceremony took place at the InterContinental Dhaka on Tuesday.

Senior Secretary to the Ministry of Commerce Tapan Kanti Ghosh was present at the ceremony as the chief guest while associates from respective associations, involved with the training programme, also joined.

Md.Jashim Uddin, president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Dandan Chen, World Bank Operations Manager for Bangladesh, Md. Abdur Rahim Khan, Additional Secretary & Coordinator BPC, Ministry of Commerce, attended the event as special guests.

Designated representatives of-- Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA), Leather goods And Footwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB), Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leather goods and Footwear Exporters' Association (BFLLFA) & Bangladesh Engineering Industry Owners' Association (BEIOA), Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BPGMEA)—were also present at the event.

The participants from the ToT programme will further conduct training as part of the continuance of Basic ESQ Training, said the release.

The Basic ESQ Training entails the facilitation of 79 batches of the training programme. Therefore, through the training E-Zone HRM Limited with support from EC4J & Industry associations will train as well as prepare 2370 ESQ subject matter specialists.

In addition to the ESQ ToT and Basic ESQ Training programme, E-Zone HRM limited has recently completed specialised ESQ training for Export Competitiveness for Jobs (EC4J), where E-Zone HRM Limited has trained and prepared 429 professionals from 340 organisations operating in Plastic, Light Engineering, Leather Goods & Footwear and Tannery Industry.

In summary, E-Zone HRM Limited in cooperation with Export Competitiveness for Jobs (EC4J) project has trained and prepared 3248 industry professionals from these four priority sectors.
