City Bank donates food to 100,000 poor people

City Bank has provided food support to some 100,000 poor people who are undergoing food shortages due to coronavirus pandemic.

The bank provided sacks of food, each containing 10kg rice and other essential food items to some 20,000 families across the country, said a statement. 

It is estimated that some 100,000 people will get through the week because of this initiative.

Chairman of the bank Aziz Al Kaiser is leading the initiative with the help of the bank’s management.

To raise the fund, City bank’s staff donated their one-day salary while its board members approved a large contribution on behalf of the bank.

Managing director of the bank Mashrur Arefin is supervising the relief distribution work with the help of a team of staff members.

The relief goods are now being distributed in Dhaka, Chattogramme, Khulna, Sylhet, Bogura, Noakhali, Tangail and Cumilla with support of local administration and law enforcement agencies.

Besides, some 3,000 families in 13 districts under Dhaka Range of Bangladesh Police are receiving the relief bags from City Bank through Uttaran Foundation, a social organisation founded by Habibur Rahman, DIG of Dhaka Range.

Moreover, some 2,000 middle-class families living on the outskirts of Gulshan area received the relief items through Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Police of Gulshan.

DC Ramna is leading another relief programme to provide foods to some 500 families of tannery workers in the capital’s Hazaribag area.
