Call for govt steps to curb prices of construction materials

Leaders of Bangladesh Association of Construction Industry (BACI) have voiced concerns over the ongoing price spirals of key construction materials.

The construction industry is now in dire straits as a syndicate is active to increase major construction materials including rod and cements in the market abnormally and frequently defying the rule and regulations, the speakers said on Thursday.

The leaders made the remarks while addressing a press conference at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity in the city over the incessant price hike of key construction materials.

They said that the industry will not be able to run its activities unless the government intervenes to stop the skyrocketing prices of rod and cement immediately.

They also threatened to stop their construction works after April 15 if the government do not take necessary measures to curb the prices.

Engr. Monir Uddin Ahmed, president of BACI, SK Md. Rafiqul Islam, chairman of GBB Power Limited, Engr. S.M. Khorshed Alam, managing director of Dienco Limited, and Shafiqul Alam Bhuiyan, among others, were present in the function.
