The Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement on Wednesday approved importing 730,000 tonnes of fertilisers at a cost of Tk 1.357 billion.
Of the total quantity, 550,000 tonnes are urea fertiliser and 180,000 tonnes are Muriate of Potash (MoP).
The committee also approved the appointment of Nippon Koei Company Ltd, a Japanese consulting firm, for design, tender assistance, and construction supervision of the port development project in Matarbari.
Agriculture Minister Dr. Muhammad Abdur Razzaque presided over a virtual meeting of the committee, in absence of Finance Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Cabinet Division additional secretary Nasima Begum said the meeting has empowered the industries minister to approve importing 550,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea fertiliser by KarnaphuliFertiliser Company Ltd.
Besides, the MoPfertiliser will be imported under government to government (G2G) agreement between Canadian Commercial Corporation and Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC).
The committee also approved a proposal on procurement of equipment for implementation of the pre-vocational and vocational programme at a cost of Tk 968.5 million.
She also informed that during this July-December period, Bangladesh will import fuel oil worth Tk 7.69 billion from the state-owned companies of various oil-exporting countries. The committee has approved the proposal in this regard.
The committee also approved a variation proposal on construction of a dam in Cox's Bazar district, and procurement of submarine cable and distribution transformer by Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB).
