The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) lodged cases against 15 business entities and fined eight eateries on Sunday for selling and manufacturing adulterated food items and weight manipulation.
During drives in different parts of the city, the national standards body filed cases against Al Madina Bakery at city’s Bhatara area for unauthorised sale of items.
The BSTI also fined Tk 10,000 to Ahili Kaba and Restaurant, Tk 20,000 Shalimer Garden Rose at city’s Banani area and Tk 200,000 to Dhansiri Restaurant at city’s Gulshan area as per the Consumer Rights Protection Act for selling food items in an unhealthy environment.
Three cases were filed against M/S Yummy Yummy, M/S Agora Super Store and M/S Unimart Limited at city’s Dhanmandi area for weight and measurement manipulation.
The BSTI also filed cases against different businesses in Nilphamari, Sylhet, Cumilla and Rajshahi for unauthorised and unadulterated selling and manufacturing of food items and weight manipulation and fined Tk 152,000 to different businesses.
