BKMEA allows members to decide whether to open factories

Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) on Thursday announced that its member factories can their own decision regarding whether to open their factories or continue existing closure.

The trade body in a statement said, “It is your own decision whether you keep your respective unit closed or open. If you decide to open, it is your own risk and responsibility towards workers and also has to comply with all the safety measures to protect the infection of coronavirus. ”

Earlier, the BKMEA asked all its member factories to shut until April 04 in line with the government’s previous decision for closure, which later was extended till April 09.

There is no obligation of keeping factories shut after April 04 from the BKMEA, it added.

It, however, instructed for timely payment of wages for the month of March irrespective of whether the factory is closed or open.

It also asked its member factories to inform the trade body first if any factory authority intends to shut their respective unit and abide by the law.

“No unit could be shut without informing or taking any decision from the BKMEA,” it warned.
