The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has restricted the movement of people in its Dhaka and Chattogram offices due to the spread of Covid-19.
The apex trade body of the apparel sector also requested its members to limit their physical visits to the offices including the PR
and Media Cell at Gulshan and take services virtually.
"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has advised to be aware of the possible second wave of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak in the country. And in such a situation, we also have to be cautious," the trade body said in a letter sent to its member factories on October 13.
Recently, some BGMEA employees in Dhaka and Chattogram offices and Gulshan PR Cell have been infected while new infections are being detected, the letter reads.
Official activities are being operated at limited scale with reduced manpower at the PR Cell, it said, adding that it is necessary to restrict the movement of members to reduce their health risks.
"The BGMEA has been rendering services virtually since the outbreak of the virus and it will continue in future," the trade body said.
The trade body also requested its members for taking pre-permission if any visit or meeting is required.
Earlier on October 05, the BGMEA in a separate letter warned its member factories of possible deterioration of the virus outbreak situation in the upcoming winter season.
According to the Industrial Police sources, a total of 479 workers from 204 industrial units in six industrial zones under its jurisdiction have been corona infected until October 11.
A total of 467 workers have recovered and six others died, they added.
According to the BGMEA, some 555 were infected, 503 recovered, and the rest are under treatment and recovering.
