The country has planned to explore new markets for creating job opportunities for the workers.

To this effect, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment (EWOE) will send official teams to Cambodia, Vietnam, Croatia, Poland, Romania, Moldova and Uganda.

EWOE minister Imran Ahmed disclosed the plan at a press conference at the Probashi Kallyan Bhaban in the city on Tuesday, marking the occasion of the 'International Migrants Day-2019' today (Wednesday).

Although the outflow of the workers has declined, he said, the inward remittances incased significantly in the recent times. The country's remittance income would stand at around US$ 21 billion this year, he estimated.

The minister said that as the demand for less-skilled workers has declined in the job destination countries, the number of outflow of workers from Bangladesh dropped in the recent months.

But the government is emphasising on quality migration and working on increasing skilled migration, he added.

About Malaysian labour market, he said there is no complication from Bangladesh side but the problems created at the Malaysian end. He expected that the market will open soon.

The press conference was told that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the programme of the Migrants Day at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city tomorrow (Thursday).

Different programmes, including migration fair and cultural programme, will be held on the occasion. The EWOE ministry will also arrange a rally as part of celebrating the International Migrants Day in the city today (Wednesday).

The EWOE secretary Salim Reza said they will provide Commercially Important Person (CIP) awards to 42 Bangladeshi expatriates on the occasion of the International Migrants Day.

Besides, the ministry also will launch insurance coverage for migrant workers and distribute stipends to the meritorious children of migrant workers on the day.

The EWOE additional secretary Dr. Ahmed Munirus Saleheen, among others, was present at the press meet.
