BD, India need cross-border investment: Shahriar

Bangladesh and India northeastern states need to contribute to cross-border flow of investments to take maximum advantage of the geographical contiguity.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam came up with the statement on Wednesday.

He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of North East India-Bangladesh EXIM Conclave in the city as the chief guest.

The junior minister urged chambers from both countries to identify the barriers and proactively work with governments to expand volume of business in future.

"Bangladesh and India's northeastern states enjoy comparative advantages such as information and communication technology, agro processing, renewable energy and hydroelectricity need to be given utmost importance," he said.

"I'm happy to note that NEF (North East Foundation) through has contributed to North East India's achievements in skills enhancement," Shahriar said.

Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsh Vardhan Shringla and CEO of North East Foundation Bhanu Pratap Singh also spoke at the programme, reports UNB.

Officials of India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, FBCCI and Bangladesh Fruit, Vegetables and Allied Products Exporters' Association were present.
